Adventurous Retirements: Author Lucy Burdette Has Two Books Published Next Week

Category: Adventurous retirement

August 1, 2023 – Talk about adventurous retirements – Lucy Burdette transitioned in mid-life from a Clinical Psychologist to published author. And on August 8th, she has 2 new books coming out!

Crooked Lane Books is publishing the 13th in Lucy Burdette’s popular Key West food critic mystery series, A Clue in the Crumbs. It features familiar Key West characters such as Chef Martha Hubbard, retired police officer Steve Torrence, and tarot card reader Ron Augustine, along with new faces like Martina Bevis and the artist Marlene Koenig. Readers will recognize beloved Key West locations such as Houseboat Row, Mallory Square, the White Street bocce courts, and many more. Two of the books in this series have won the Florida Book Award. The first book in the Food Critic series is An Appetite for Murder.

Sale! The Key Lime Crime, #10 in the Key West food critic mystery series, is on sale for two days as an ebook, just $.99 !

Not to be outdone, the London publisher Severn House is releasing her second women’s fiction title, THE INGREDIENTS OF HAPPINESS, next week. This new book features a young adjunct psychology professor who runs into trouble with administration bigwigs because of her very popular undergraduate class on happiness. Burdette’s first thriller, UNSAFE HAVEN, features non-stop action that takes place in New York City and Madison, CT. Her books and stories have been short-listed for Agatha, Anthony, and Macavity awards. She’s a past president of Sisters in Crime, and currently president of the Friends of the Key West Library.

I love all 21 of Lucy’s books and am so proud of her. In mid-life she transformed herself from a Clinical Psychologist to successful published novelist. In particular I think both Unsafe Haven and The Ingredients of Happiness are quite riveting.

John Brady

Readers of Topretirements might also remember that Lucy (pen name of Roberta Isleib) is married to John Brady, President of Topretirements. She decided in her 50s that she would rather be a writer than a psychologist. So she went to seminars, writing classes, joined a writers group, and read, read, read – then finally landed an agent and 2 publishers. Now 21 books later, she is still having fun with it!
