New Survey: Best Snowbird Pairing Suggestions

Category: Snowbirds

December 31, 2023 -- There seems to be a lot of interest in an updated survey of what our Members think are the best snowbird pairing suggestions - a combination of where you would like to live in winter and summer, given the opportunity to live in two or more places. Not that the winter has to be warm, because plenty of folks actually migrate north when the leaves start turning, although warmer winters are preferred by most. To keep things simple, please post your opinions and what you or your friends actually do in the Comments section below. Just tell everyone where you go back and forth to, along with (ideally) how you get there (drive, fly, train, etc.), and how long you stay. Do you rent or own, and if you care to mention what you pay, that would be great too. People who own snowbird properties for rent are welcome to post their information so this can serve as a clearing house.

Most Snowbirds Are Renters, Travel by Car

Category: Retirement Planning

October 6, 2021 -- The results of last week's survey on snowbirds are in. Many thanks to the community spirited folks that filled it out! While we can all speculate about snowbird behavior, it is satisfying and interesting to find out what people like you do in the real world. The results are roughly consistent with our 2018 survey on this topic, which had a much larger response rate. You can compare those results as well as find a link to Part 2 of that report, which lists ideal snowbird pairings and many comments from people who snowbird, here. Overall Most of the people who completed it are snowbirds, which reflects a natural interest in the topic. The results show a great variety of when people leave for the winter and how long they stay. Some of the most interesting results were comments about how people found their winter place, and how Covid has affected their plans. We have summarized the results for each question below, which we hope might be useful in your own snowbirding lives. Will you go somewhere warm this winter (be a snowbird), and for how long. Most of the people taking the survey were snowbirds. There were roughly equal numbers who will go away for periods from 1 to six month. One fourth plan on snowbirding for less than a month.

Quiz Results: On Most, But Not All Aspects, Your Homes are Ready for Retirement.

Category: Home and Garden

June 12, 2021 -- Thanks to the 200 people who took our Home Readiness for Retirement Quiz. The Topretirements community appreciates the few minutes you took to assess your home's readiness. We hope that you found the exercise useful. We know we did, our grab bars were installed today! Here are the results of the survey, with several surprises mixed in with findings that were more predictable. The point of the quiz is to make sure that wherever you decide to live in retirement, your home is a safe place that lets you age gracefully in place. The good news is that most homes can be retrofitted to get there. Those without a first floor bedroom/bath option face a more problematic situation. Overall Conclusions: Almost three quarters (77%) of our Members have a bedroom/bath on the first floor, which is great news. They should be able to stay in their homes regardless of their mobility in the future.
