Active Communities with Golf and Marina

Dec. 28, 2024 – Active communities with golf and Marinas have the two of the most popular amenities that retirees at Topretirements are interested in. Usually, people prefer one of those activities over the other. But some folks want to have the option of a community that has both a golf and marina as part of their facilities. They probably won’t pursue both on the same day, but they do enjoy both activities from time to time. Fortunately, there are quite a few communities that can deliver facilities where homeowners can enjoy both boating and golf without leaving the gates.

A handy way to find them is our new Community Explorer. Using it, we found 23 communities in Florida that offer both a marina and either a 9 or 18 hole golf course. In South Carolina the Community Explorer found 18 communities offering an 18 hole golf course and a marina. Note there are another 12 SC communities that offer golf and a boat or kayak launch. In North Carolina the Explorer turned up 13 communities with the combination of golf and marina. We will provide a sampling from these states plus one in Georgia here. But you can use the Community Explorer to find more (and other options too!) in these and other states.

Active Communities with Golf and Marinas – Florida

Riverside Golf and Marina Community in Ruskin is one; a place where you can keep your boat docked on a lovely stretch of the Little Manatee River with direct access to Tampa Bay, and enjoy 18 holes of golf on the same day.

The ultra-luxurious Ocean Reef Club at the top of the Florida Keys is another community who has outstanding amenities for golf and boating. It boasts 2 golf courses plus a marina with slips that allow easy access to the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico for very large yachts. Then there is its private airport, a nice perk for those of a certain economic standing.

The Yacht and Country Club of Stuart offers great golf and canal properties within minutes of the St Lucie inlet, giving the avid fishermen deep water access to the “Sailfish Capital of the World”. Other amenities include lighted Har-tru tennis courts, croquet lawns, fitness center, and heated swimming pool. 

Two other Florida properties with extensive golf and marina amenities are The Moorings in Vero Beach, and Pasadena Yacht and Country Club in Gulfport. The Moorings has a meandering 8 miles of seawall along the Indian River Lagoon, which provides a deep water canal system connected to the Intracoastal Waterway. Golf and tennis facilities are top-notch. Residents enjoy miles of pristine beaches.

The Pasadena Yacht and Country Club is an established community in a classic country club united with a world-class marina situated close to the gulf beaches and downtown St. Petersburg. There is a 18 hole championship golf course renovated by Arnold Palmer, and the yacht basin has 82 boat slips.

Queens Harbour Yacht and Country Club is a waterfront community in Jacksonville with 1,000+ custom-designed homes. The community offers an active lifestyle, luxury, and a convenient location near the beach. Homes that border the lagoon have private docks while a centrally located marina offers 65 boat slips with power and water service. The Country Club golf course at Queen’s Harbour has hosted many elite tournaments.

Active South Carolina and Georgia Communities with Golf and Marinas

The Landings is located on Georgia’s emerald coast. Feeling like a private enclave, yet is only 20 minutes from the downtown of one of the South’s iconic cities, Savannah. The few thousand Landings residents enjoy six championship golf courses, multiple tennis courts, 40 miles of biking and walking trails, a modern and well-equipped fitness center, and deep water marinas.

Dataw Island in Beaufort combines great golf and a boating in one community. The former 18th century plantation has a marina, two championship golf courses, miles of bike paths, fitness and activity centers, along with access to the beach. There are condos, single family homes, and townhomes.

Moss Creek on Hilton Head Island Moss Creek is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Sited almost at the foot of the bridge to Hilton Head, Moss Creek is closer to the Atlantic Ocean beaches on the island than are other Bluffton-area communities. Its 36 holes of golf are early samples of the work of the legendary Tom Fazio. It offers boat slips and storage, private and club kayak racks, 5 fishing docks and 2 crabbing docks. 

North Carolina Communities with Golf and Marinas

Cypress Landing attracts families and individuals of all ages attracted to the possibilities of an active lifestyle. Located 25 miles from university town of Greenville, this riverfront community spreads over rolling terrain on the Chocowinity Bay between the Pamlico River and Intercoastal Waterway of North Carolina. Amenities include a marina with 222 slips and a floating dock system, a 4 star rated golf course, tennis courts, pickleball, and fitness center.

Albemarle Plantation in Hertford is another a golf and marina community. It is named after Albemarle Sound, so the community has a strong focus on the water. Amenities include a Dan Maples Golf Course, a Clubhouse, resort pool, and a community center with a fitness facility. The marina has 166 slips and can accomodate boats up to 60′ in length.

St. James Plantation in Southport NC offers homes ranging from multi-million dollar waterfront mansions to low country property in wooded settings. Many civic and social clubs everything from crafters, reading clubs, hobby and volunteer groups. It has separate country clubs plus St. James by the Sea Beach Club. The marina has 155 wet slips and 320 dry stacks.

Marinas and Golf are just one combination.
