When baby boomers prepare for the next phase of their lives – retirement – many of them start by looking for the best places to retire at Topretirements.com. Every year we keep track of the most popular retirement towns on this site – here is our list compiled based on 2008 results.
Asheville, North Carolina remains the run away favorite dream retirement town. Asheville has 50% more web visits than the next most visited town on this site (Sarasota, Florida).
There were some new additions in 2008 within the top 10 places to retire on this list. Those include San Diego, California at #8; Austin, Texas at #9; and Phoenix, Arizona at #10.
Sunbelt states dominated with the most towns in the top 25 list. Connecticut (Old Saybrook), Canada (Halifax), and Ohio (oxford) were the only towns to make the list from north of the Mason-Dixon line. Arizona dominated with 6 “best” towns, followed by Florida (4), North Carolina (3), California (2), Texas (2), and Tennessee(2). Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia, Connecticut, Ohio, and Canada each had 1 town on the list.

:???:Can you describe the ideal community where you would want to live? Of course, this will vary with each person and the stage in their life. Young upcoming with children vs retirees for instance. They would each have specific wants and needs. Many would be common. Can they be merged into a community with services and jobs? With the abilities of each used to the advantage of the group? Can there be qualifications to live in this community? Why should this be any different for our country? Why should this be any different in our world? City, County, State?

As we mention in the main article these were the 25 most visited communities on this site from March - October 2008. It is really a measure of popularity - the towns that people are most interested in reading about. Of course to be chosen in the first place someone had to consider that town a great place to retire. After that it is the information and the photos on the review that help determine popularity.

Princess Anne Maryland
On the Eastern Shore of Maryland, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean, near the wild ponies and pristine natural beach of Assateague and the Chesapeake Bay , a true delight for sailing enthusiasts and all boaters. Surrounded by 4 navigable rivers running along picturesque small towns.
Princess Anne Maryland is a place you can find some of the best historic homes at rock- bottom prices (80-250K), including Colonial, Federal, Italianate and Victorian era beauties. It's an up and coming town with a newly renovated historic downtown with trendy shops and cafes, and lots of urbane folks from DC, Philadelphia and Baltimore moving in and restoring the homes in the historic district. Lots of assistance and grants from the historical trust and local societies for historic renovations. Two universities offer affordable cultural activities, mild winters, low taxes, relaxed way of life.
Nearby Salisbury offers plenty of box store shopping, cinemas and top rated medical facilities, 15 minutes away but the small town atmosphere of Princess Anne is not affected.

Crime, traffic, congestion, high cost of living, high priced housing,high property taxes, poor schools, corruption, forget YALE! I was born and raised in NEW Haven, went to school and college there, and thank GOD had the foresite to leave as have my children. I was also on the PD. Come on John do better research!
