Would be interested in great hints for saving and cutting living expenses. You have had this thread in the past and I found the readers' suggestions very helpful and wise. I think such ideas would be welcome in such uncertain economic times as ours.

In a few years, my wife and I will both have defined-benefit pensions.
I rarely, if ever, see retirement articles related to how one should best manage retirement with defined-benefit pensions.

I have always thought of possibly retiring in Portugal, but have recently given it even more serious consideration. The cost of living there is much lower than in the US, healthcare is very good, there are many coastal towns to choose from, the culture and history interest me deeply, and they have reasonable requirements for residency. I’m posting to see if there’s any useful information readers can share with regards visa application (e.g. a company whose service can be hired to assist in the visa application and requirements once relocation is complete — opening a bank account, obtaining a resident number, signing up for private local healthcare, etc.). I’m also asking for information about housing and getting a lease since it’s required with the visa application. I’ve looked at Idealista, but that platform doesn’t have reviews of the rentals and I’m not familiar with it nor know anyone who has used it. So not sure how trustworthy it is, especially since the lease requirement will s for a whole year. I’ve also looked at booking.com which has customer reviews of the rentals and whose platform I’ve used. I know I would get the keys to the rental after I issue payment if I use booking.com. However, their rentals are restricted for only 30 days, so multiple booking will be needed. I welcome whatever information you can share.

Hello Nerissa,
My wife and I consulted many resources for our Portugal purchases and the below relocation expert firm was the firm we utilized and with great success.
