Fans Can Now Have a Last Goodbye from Mickey
Category: Family and Retirement
August 26, 2020 – Do you know someone completed devoted to Walt Disney characters or Disneyland/Disneyworld? MagicalPassings can arrange for loved ones to say goodbye with the help of Disney characters and themes. According to their website, the company “specializes in customized and themed end of life experiences for you and your loved ones… (with) Disney funerals.” You can have character visits, a kiss goodbye from Mickey, listen to favorite melodies, or even have Captain Jack send them off to Davy Jones Locker.
This has to be one of the more unusual ways for a final send off, but it is surely not the only one. Scattering of ashes is prohibited at most venues, but sometimes people find a way around that. For those looking for the most environmentally responsible solution, a green burial is the solution. Also called a natural or conservation burial, your loved one is put to earth in a manner that protects the environment for future generations. In a natural cemetery embalmed bodies are prohibited, because embalming fluids typically include formaldehyde, a suspected carcinogen that endangers funeral workers and slows down decomposition.
Metal caskets and other objects that are not biodegradable are also prohibited in natural burials. In most cases cremated remains are accepted (although there is some evidence that that process generates pollution). There are no grave stones, although a metal marker at ground level is often provided. A young sapling tree is planted at the head of every grave. See “Why a Green Burial Is a Good Idea“.
Bottom line. Whatever method you choose for a final ceremony on earth, the point is that you have a plan that your family knows about. Don’t leave them guessing about your intentions at a time when they are grieving.
Comments? Have you made plans for your exit? If so, what are you considering, and how have you told your family. We always loved the Irish command to have a flat-topped casket so the drinks don’t slide off. And if you have seen the amazing send offs for deceased policemen in The Wire, you know how great a final farewell party can be.
