Located on the Colorado Plateau, Farmington, New Mexico, is the only Metropolitan area of the Four Corners and is the commercial hub, with a diverse population of about 45,000. The Four Corners region is the only place in the United States where four states meet and is made up of the southwestern corner of Colorado, the southeastern corner of Utah, the northeastern corner of Arizona and the northwestern corner of Utah. The quadpoint is marked by the Four Corners Monument. Farmington sits at the junction of the San Juan River, the Animas River and the La Plata River, and is home to San Juan College which is an important part of the community as it offers cultural and education opportunities to residents. Farmington is known across New Mexico and throughout the southwest for its baseball tournaments, and is host to the Connie Mack World Series with teams from various regions around the United States and Puerto Rico. The Farmington Civic Center is located in the center of downtown and serves as convention center as well as a performing and visual arts center; The Farmington Museum features exhibits of the history of the area, traveling exhibits, art shows and lecture series; the community is also home to a children's museum and science center. Downtown Farmington has four major Art Walks a year, and the Maker's Market features vendors who sell fresh produce and homemade and handmade goods. A great asset to the community is San Juan College which is home to the Henderson Fine Arts Center that has a 800-seat theater and an art wing with gallery.

The crime rate is high, with theft being the most common crime.

Transportation

Farmington offers intercity bus service with discounts for seniors; Four Corners Regional Airport is in Farmington and is used for general aviation, charter flights, and military operations. Durango, Colorado, also has a regional airport, but the nearest international airport is in Albuquerque, about 185 miles away.
