Fishers, Indiana
What It Is Like to Retire in Fishers
Fishers is a fast growing town of 76,000 that is about 13 miles from Indianapolis. The town is both quite affluent (HH income of $76,000) and young (average age 33). It has an impressive number of parks, highly rated schools, and a roster of big name employers such as Sallie Mae and Roche. Our impression on a recent visit was this might be a good place to raise a family but not a place you would want to retire too, since everything is spread out and you must drive everywhere. The downtown is very smalll and lacks charm. The city has ranked highly in numerous "Best" awards such as Best Place to Raise a Family, Best Town for Undiscovered Golf, etc. Photo of City Hall courtesy of Wikipedia.

What Is Not Special about Fishers
While Fishers might be fine for growing families it could be tough for retirees. Everything is spread out and you cannot walk to anything. Biking would over long distances and busy roads. Hopefully its fast growth will be controlled and not result in sprawl and traffic.
