Sanford is a rapidly growing town of about 30,000 (2014) in the sand hills of central North Carolina. It was know to be the larges producer of clay bricks in 1959, and was called the "Brick Capital of the U.S.A." Today it still continues the manufacturing of bricks along with textiles, and has seen an influx of the biotech industry. Sanford is also home to the Lee County campus of Central Carolina Community College and several historical sites. It is a very quiet part of the state and is growing rapidly. Active adult communities are available in the region, including in the area closer to Pinehurst (less than 30 miles). Outdoor recreation is popular with several parks, and nearby Deep River and Jordan Lake offer canoeing and kayaking. Sanford also has a municipal golf course.
