The pretty riverfront town offers beautiful views of the lower Hudson River Valley, with the cliffs of the Palisades as backdrop to the west. It was named after Jeremiah Dobbs, a fisherman and whose family ran a ferry service that crossed the Hudson from here. The community also has historical significance as it played a role during the American Revolutionary War when Continental Army troops led by George Washington were encamped here. Dobbs Ferry is a quaint and walkable town and has been named one of the 10 Best Small Towns by Livability, as it attracts those looking for a slower pace near a metropolitan city, and it was noted for it's school system. The rivertown was also recognized as a Climate Smart Community, through a New York State program that is dedicated to reducing greenhouse emissions and minimizing the risk of climate change. A multi-million dollar riverfront park has been developed recently with open spaces, playgrounds, and host to summer concerts and community events. It also offers two popular linear parks, the Croton Aqueduct Trailway and the South County Trailway which both run through the village. Dobbs Ferry is home to the Juhring Nature Preserve, historical sites, and Mercy College. There are a few places of interest including the Meade House and the Estherwood Estate where Teddy Roosevelt spent his childhood in the 1870's, and the Little White Cemetery provides the history of the village's older past. The Masters School, a coed boarding school, and Mercy College are both located on beautiful campuses overlooking the Hudson River and offers sporting events to attend. For the cultural scene, Manhattan is just minutes away.
