Millville, New Jersey, in Cumberland County, with a population of 28,400 (2010 census), was built around the Maurice River in the late 1700’s. The town was named for the many mills and factories that sprung up due to its location on the river, among the many surrounding forests. Another natural resource, silica sand, was abundant and led to the beginning of the glass industry here, of which the town is still proud of and celebrates today. During the past several years, Millville has undergone major restorations and development of its scenic riverfront and downtown areas which include shops, restaurants, art galleries and studios.
