San Jose del Cabo, population 48,000, is a quaint and historic resort town at the bottom of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. It is located on the coast just east of Cabo San Lucas, its more famous neighbor. The area between these two towns has 20 miles of beautiful beaches which connects them. Cabo San Lucas is more of a party town whereas San Jose del Cabo is more colonial and laid back. The area is famous for its offshore fishing, particularly for Marlin.

There are many developments where a majority of the residents are 55+, even though they might not be age-restricted. (see Active Communities link at left).
Although in most of Mexico homes will generally cost much less than comparable ones in the States, that is not always true for both of these Cabos. Many Fortune 500 executives and other wealthy people have purchased second homes here, which has raised prices. Prices can be quite high in the exclusive communities. Prices range from the $75,000 for a small 1 bedroom apartments to the $500s for larger ones with views, into the millions for villas.

It is a long way from the U.S. and the drive down can be dangerous (the U.S. State Department has issued warnings about travel in northern Mexico). Prices are high for Mexico.
