La Paz is a large city on the southeast coast of Mexico's Baja peninsula. The population was about 244,000 in 2015, and many more live in the surrounding Metro. Summers are very hot and dry and winters are mild. The very Americanized resort of Cabo San Lucas is a short drive away on the Baja's southern tip. La Paz is large enough that there is plenty to do for expatriate retirees.

The year-round average temperature falls between 63 and 86 degrees, with the summer months highs in the 90's, and the winter months in the 70's.

As expected there are great seafood restaurants here along with Mexican, Latin, and vegetarian. La Paz is home to Balandra Beach which is recognized a one the most beautiful in the world. It also offers all types of water activities and adventures including snorkeling and whale watching tours, cruises, sailing and fishing. Culturally, La Paz offers much to do and see and has many museums, historical sites and landmarks, and beautiful parks. Several annual events and festivals are held including Carnaval, a six day event held before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday, and Fiesta de La Paz held in May and celebrates the founding of the city.
Crime
The crime rate in La Paz is considered very low with drugs involved in most crimes, although not as prevalent as in other parts of the country.
