Monterrey is the capital city and the largest city in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico, and sits at the foothills of the Sierra Dadre Oriental. With its rich history and culture, Monterrey is considered to be one of the wealthiest and most livable cities in Mexico. It is the second largest Metro in Mexico with over 5 million inhabitants. Where to Retire in Monterrey and Home Prices
Monterrey is a large city with many neighborhoods including some that are more popular with expats.There are many housing options here including villas, apartments and high-rise condos. A recent search found very nice houses and apartments for sale for between the mid $100s and $300s. The suburb of San Pedro Garza García is said to offer the best quality of life in Mexico.

Monterrey is a cultural center and a prosperous city that is home to museums, libraries, sports teams, and schools of higher education including The Monterrey Institute of Technology and the University of Monterrey.

Traffic within the city is very congested and with vendors and beggars in the streets; summers are hot with the average high in August about 95 degrees; crime rate is high with drug gangs.

Monterrey is a major industrial center and is located along major highways, rails and airports. The diverse economy is driven by manufacturing companies including ironwork, steel and cement. Technology, retail stores, and service firms also add to the booming economy.
Climate and Physical Environment
Monterrey is one of the warmest large cities in Mexico. The average January temperature is 58 degrees and July's average is 84 degrees. The rains from Hurricane Alex caused much water damage to the city in 2010.

There are many restaurants and cultural venues in Monterrey including museums, historical sites, sporting events and festivals.
Crime
The city's crime rate was low, but during the past few years drug problems have become more prevalent, although most neighborhoods are considered to be very safe.

There are many hospitals and medical facilities located here that are highly ranked and expats find health services to be much lower priced than in the United States.
Transportation
The city does offer public transportation with bus lines and has a rapid transit system. There are two international airports that serve Monterrey.
