What It Is Like to Retire in Malahide
Malahide is a small and charming coastal town just north of Dublin. The town was often visited by the Vikings who used its harbor on the Broadmeadow River on its way to the Irish Sea. Malahide Castle and its parks date back to the 1100's. The Main Street runs parallel to the water with a combination of seaside homes and businesses. The Malahide Tennis and Croquet club occupies prime real estate downtown. Old Street is pedestrian only down to the harbor, offering pubs like Gibney

This is one of the most prosperous towns in Ireland so real estate prices go along with that. The average asking price is just under 500,000 Euros in 2022. Larger homes can be over 1 million Euros. There are condos, rentals, Town homes, and single family homes to choose from. We are not aware of any active adult communities, but the apartment complex at the marina would be an excellent place for retirees to live.

The town is special because of its location on the sea and proximity to Dublin, less than half an hour away by car or train. Tourists and locals come here for the restaurants, coffee shops, and pubs.

On the downside Malahide is an expensive place to live and can often be busy with tourists.

People who enjoy boating, tennis, and golf will love Malahide. It offers the convenience of popping into Dublin or just relaxing in a coastal town. It is easy for anyone who is a citizen of the EU to move here, while citizens of other countries can usually get visas for shorter stays and then renew them each year.

The local industry is tourism and serving as a suburb to the city. It is a service economy with some commercial fishing.

Malahide is located on the Irish Sea just north of Dublin, putting it on the southeast side of the country. Winter temps are surprisingly warm, with the average January low in the 40s and July's in the mid 60s. It receives about 3 Inches of rain in November, and about half that in July.
