Leesburg is located in central Florida between Lake Harris and Lake Griffin at the head of the Ocklawaha River. The population was almost 24,000 in 2019. During the depression the Works Progress Administration began work on the Venetian Gardens waterside park, located on the shores of Lake Harris. The Venetian Gardens waterside park (110 acres) on the shores of Lake Harris has been a centerpiece of the community since the project was built by the WPA in the 1930's. The town has at least 6 beaches on three lakes, plus a yacht club. There is a Saturday Farmer's Market. Very popular 13 mile recreational trail through town. Leesburg has many active adult and 55+ communities to choose from.
