What It Is Like to Retire in Atlantis

Atlantis is a very tiny incorporated city of just over 2,100 between Boynton Beach and Lake Worth. It is built on the site of a former cattle ranch. This community is gated and has it own police force. There is a public golf course as well as a private country club.  Nathan Hunt and Paul Kintz were involved in its development and management.  The residential development plus a small amount of adjacent land for commercial use was incorporated in 1959. Atlantis is home to the JFK Medical Center.

Where to Retire in Atlantis and Home Prices

The community was developed over different periods and you can see that in its varying neighborhoods. Most are single family homes, although there is one development near the lake comprised of condominiums.  Lot sizes are usually quite generous.   Prices range from the high $100s to near $1 million for the largest homes on the choicest lots. Most homes are on the golf course or lake. It is a very quiet community. There are other small communities in the area as well - Lantana, Kenwood Gardens, Lakewood Estates, and Greenacres to name a few.

What Is Special about Atlantis

It is one of the tiniest incorporated cities in America.  When you come through the gates it is it like your cares have been erased.  There is plenty of golf, tennis, and the JFK Medical Center's acclaimed Cardiac Center on campus.

What Is Not Special about Atlantis

It is not diverse.  You also need a car to get anywhere - which could mean a trip on what some call "Die 95".
