What It Is Like to Retire in Brentwood
Brentwood is a rapidly growing town of about 50,000 in the east Bay area of California between Stockton and Walnut Creek. Nearby recreation areas include Franks Tract Recreation Area and Sherman Lake. The area was originally an agriculture community but now it is suburban and home to some industry. Where to Retire in Brentwood and Home Prices
Brentwood has many nice neighborhoods and developments. It also has at least one interesting active adult community, Summerset Orchards (see link to Active Communities at right). Nearby Discovery Bay, a waterfront community of under 10,000, is also an interesting possibility. Some of the new neighborhoods were centered around two new golf courses, the Shadow Lakes Golf Club and the Deer Valley Gold Club, that were constructed to take advantage of the views of Mt. Diablo. The median sales price in late 2023 was $804,554, according to Zillow.
What Is Special about Brentwood
There is very good big box shopping. Plentiful recreation in the nearby Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. The area has rolling hills and orchards. Local wineries of some repute include Bloomfield, Tamayo, and Hannah Nicole.
What Is Not Special about Brentwood
There is no BART station and vehicle traffic can be very bad.
Who Will Like Retirement in Brentwood
People who want to live near the Bay area but not in it might like Brentwood. Particularly if they want to live in an active adult community, they might be able to find one here.

Formerly agricultural, now their is some light industry and high tech business.

Brentwood is in the East Bay area of California midway between Walnut Creek and Stockton. The area is dry with rolling hills, oak trees, and orchards. The average July high is 91. The average January high is 53 and the low is 38. January is the wettest month.
Restaurants & Cultural Scene
Brentwood has an active public library. The Brentwood "Cornfest" happens in July each year which includes a concert. The East Contra Costa Historical Museum. Los Medanos College has a satellite campus in town.

The nearest facilities are in nearby Antioch, Walnut Creek, and Stockton.
Transportation
There is bus service to Walnut Creek and its BART stations. Otherwise congested highways are the transit option. Brentwood is below average in walkability when compared to other communities.
