Casa Grande (Spanish for big house), is a town of 55,653 residents and located in Pinal County, Arizona, between Phoenix and Tucson. Many residents work in either Phoenix or Tucson, and the growing city has seen a 132% growth in population since 2000, with the median age 38 years. Casa Grande offers a historic downtown with shops, restaurants, and events. The town has many parks, golf courses, sports leagues, an aquatic center, library, and an active senior center. Many of the 55+ people in Casa Grande tend to live in the active adult communities spread out around the outskirts of the town (see link at top left ). Most of those are gated communities and have amenities like golf courses. Zillow reported the median home value was $327,514 in early 2023. Homes in some of the nicer developments will be higher than that.
What Is Special about Casa grande
This part of southern Arizona is a little less overdeveloped than the Phoenix region. Casa Grande has a mix of old Arizona and modern buildings; the shopping is very good; the desert and the mountains are beautiful; the famous Hohokam Indian Ruins are 20 miles to the northeast; Casa Grande was home to a collective farm society which was part of the New Deal; the Francisco Grande Hotel & Golf Resort was the former spring training camp of the San Francisco Giants.
What Is Not Special about Casa grande
Casa Grande has just about everything to offer, it doesn't have a Costco or a large variety of chain restaurants.
Who Will Like Retirement in Casa grande
People who want to live in an active adult community in beautiful southern Arizona will love it here. It has a great hometown town feel, convenient to metro Phoenix with out having to deal with the problems, like traffic, congestion and poor air quaility.
Local Economy Is Driven by
While not highly visible, manufacturing is the most common industry located in Casa Grande. It is a bedroom community for some people from Phoenix and Tucson, so the service industry is important. There is considerable retail in Casa Grande including The Promenade at Casa Grande, an open-air outdoor mall with 1,000,000 sq.ft. Construction remains a driver of the economy although to a lesser extent since the downturn in the housing market.
Climate and Physical Environment
Casa Grande is halfway between Tucson and Phoenix in southern Arizona. The normal high temperature in January is 65 with a normal low of 38. The normal July high temperature is 105 with a low of 78. Casa Grande averages 10" of rain per year.
Restaurants & Cultural Scene
The Musuem of Casa Grande offers wonderful insight on the history of the community. Casa Grande Main Street hosts regular activities, including car shows, art, and preformances. The Casa Grande Public Library is a 16,000 sq.ft. facility with 75,000 volumes.
Crime
The crime rate in Casa Grande is double the national average, but that is due to progressive reporting. The policies the police chief in Casa Grande set in place were agressive, but that would be my preference anyways. A large number of the arrests are for domestic issues. I feel safe in Casa Grande.
Medical facilities
Banner Casa Grande Medical Center is a full hospital and serves the residents of Casa Grande.You will also find a wide variety of doctors and medical facilities thoughout Casa Grande including many specialties.
Transportation
Casa Grande Municipal Airport is on the west side of town and services small planes and annually hosts the very popular Cactus Fly-In. Like most communities in Arizona, Casa Grande is mainly car dependent for running most errands with some neighborhoods having better walkability.
