Toccoa means beautiful in Cherokee. During WWII there was an army paratrooper training base here, now the Currahee Military Museum celebrates that history. The downtown has been redeveloped and attracts locals and tourists.

There is a private airport with 5,000' runway, along with an AMTRAK station. Athens, about 50 miles away has an airport for domestic flights, and the nearest International Airport is in Atlanta, about 90 miles away. Toccoa has a walkable downtown area.
